2018 CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY OF TETRAPYRROLES GRC

July 15 – 20, 2018
Salve Regina University
Newport, Rhode Island, United States

Dear Colleagues,

We have an exciting program for the 2018 Chemistry and Biology of Tetrapyrroles Gordon Research Conference at Salve Regina University, Newport, Rhode Island.

The full program is available at the GRC website.

The 2018 meeting builds upon a long and rich tradition which started over 50 years ago in 1966 with a group of scientists with diverse interests and strengths but with a common core interest in understanding tetrapyrroles — a family of metabolites broadly comprising heme, cobalamin (vitamin B12), and chlorophyll. The 2018 GRC purposely strove to assemble physicists, chemists, engineers, biologists, and clinicians with broad expertise in solving outstanding problems related to tetrapyrroles that will promote cross-fertilization of ideas and ultimately forge collaborations. Our GRC is unique because it encompasses clinical, biological, and chemical aspects of tetrapyrroles from microbes to man. Given that tetrapyrroles share common chemical properties, the biological principles that govern their trafficking and homeostasis are likely to have overarching similarities across phyla. The main scientific theme of the 2018 GRC is to share and deliberate on the recent advances in The Movement and Trafficking of Tetrapyrroles.

Salve Regina University is located about 80 miles south of Boston and is situated on the southeastern end of Aquidneck Island in the city of Newport. The campus is within walking distance from the beach, the center of historic downtown Newport, Cliff Walk, the largest collection of restored 18th century mansions (including the Vanderbilt’s, Doris Duke, Marble House and the Breakers). We encourage you to attend and bring trainees from your research group, as this meeting has provided an excellent training ground and networking opportunity for new investigators in the field.

We hope to see you in Newport in July 2018!

Best wishes,
Iqbal Hamza, Ph.D.
Chair, Chemistry and Biology of Tetrapyrroles Gordon Research Conference
