Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Iron Biology, New York Blood Center (NYBC, New York, NY)

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the Vinchi Laboratory at the New York Blood Center. We are currently seeking PostDoc candidates to investigate mechanisms of heme/iron-driven inflammation and oxidative stress within the Iron Research Program of the institute. We are part of the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, the research branch of the New York Blood Center, one of the most comprehensive blood centers in the world. NYBC focus is on cultivating excellence by merging cutting-edge innovation with diligent customer service, groundbreaking research, and comprehensive program and service development. The main goal of the Iron Program is to investigate the impact of iron overload and deficiency on the pathogenesis of human diseases, including sickle cell disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Our research investigates the molecular mechanisms of heme/iron-driven inflammation, oxidative stress and vascular dysfunction, and the role of detoxification systems in counteracting these effects. The candidate will perform cutting-edge research that integrates human biology and hematology with novel therapies using innovative technologies and approaches including classic molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques, as well as modern imaging, sequencing and single cell analysis techniques, bioinformatics, and preclinical in vitro and in vivo models.  In addition, he/she will collaborate with other research scientists across the NYBC, including basic and translational investigators.

Requirements include:

  • D. and/or M.D. degree in the biomedical sciences
  • A good record of high impact publications and a strong scholarly record
  • An experimental background in molecular and cellular biology (research experience with mouse models is required)
  • Ability to work independently and within a strong team environment; to identify problems in a timely manner, evaluate options and implement solutions; trong attention to detail in all work processes
  • Participation in team meetings and contribution to experimental design

For immediate consideration, please submit an application to Dr. Francesca Vinchi, Head of Iron Research Program (FVinchi@nybc.org),  including:

  • a full CV, including a list of publications
  • a motivational letter concisely describing your past research experience, your research interests and why you are applying
  • two letters of recommendation by referees (including their contact information)
