Dear All,

After numerous discussion at IBIS about expression and detection of iron related proteins and in the spirit to promote The "open science", I would like  to propose to the IBIS committee and community  the possibility to develop a link/tab on the website site (Bioiron forum or other)  for a resources database with links, advices, document to upload (with author permission) such as protocols, primers sequences, antibodies description /data sheet as well as  ways to obtain them from agreed contact.

Developping some skills in webmaster activity and website creation and managing ( https://www.irsd.fr/ , https://clubmacrophage31.weebly.com/ )  I can give an help for such purpose.

By the way, I found that the actual IBIS website would need some refreshment in order to be more appealing and easy to explore, especially for Young and next generation.

Give me your feedback on that

all the best

François

Dear Francois,

Thank you for your thoughts. I think that this is an excellent idea! As you mentioned in your comment at the BioIron meeting (during the Q&A session of Tom Ganz's talk on "Open Questions in Iron Research"), antibodies used by the iron community would benefit by proper validation (preferably with documentation) prior to their use. This is especially true of the highly hydrophobic membrane proteins that we work with, as good antibodies to these proteins are often very difficult to generate. I propose that we start a new tab on the Forum for reagents & protocols.

Any other thoughts from the BioIron community? Is there anybody out there?

mitch

Dear Francois,

Your suggestion (to start a new tab Protocols and Reagents)  is most welcome and I very much support it and encourage you to pursue it. In the pre-Bioiron workshop we just had in Heidelberg, we prepared  a brochure with lab protocols on a variety of technologies and methodologies used in Bioiron research and also some in clinical practice used also in basic research. They are on the way to be posted in Bioiron Forum. They are by no means comprehensive but it is a start and any future contribution (or even leading role) from people like you are much appreciated.

Many thanks

Yoav
